How are you different from your parents?

Posted on Aug 17th, 2009 by AlcheMystic : AlcheMystic AlcheMystic
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 17, 2009:

If I was to REALLY answer this question it would USE UP whatever is left of the internet. The internet would shut down from lack of resources, space, whatever, you name it because it would have been ALL USED UP by my answer to this question. I suppose an easier answer would be, "There isn't enough time int he day!"

Sometimes our differences in reality are similarities.

Yes I know all about that. I choose not to delve into the intellectual sometimes “more spiritual/enlightened than thou” conversations/one way discourses that happen all to often here on gaia.com. When I answered the question (which, I RARELY answer these questions) I went with the first thought that came to my mind. That first thought was wrapped in humor and I knew that the only people here on gaia that would understand that humor would be the ones that know a little something about me.

My answer was not a denial of the richness that my genetic history has to offer. If you knew me you would know that I walk through life with my eyes wide open. If you knew me you would have known there is no need to try to preach at me.

It's about sharing with one another. How you take it is up to you.

In love,
Gabriel

Yes, it IS about sharing with one another, HOWEVER, you chose to share with me from a place of assumption. You assumed you knew something I did not as opposed to being open to the possibility that PERHAPS there was something you too could have learned in this interaction.

Trust me, I took the time to look at your profile before commenting on your “sharing.” Your lack of a profile or any real pictures of YOU spoke volumes. You are here to give others your information. Information is not wisdom. The emptiness of your profile shows me you that you don't TRULY desire to “share” YOURSELF, just what you THINK you know. We are all filled with knowledge, information, stuff to keep the brain busy, preoccupied, maybe even distracted from our true mission here in this life.

If you took the time to read my profile you will have read “I am a teacher and my peers are my students. I am a student and my peers are my teachers.” This pretty much sums up how I strive to live my life…knowing when it is appropriate for me to share what I know and when it is appropriate to listen, absorb, learn. I welcome interaction with individuals who approach me from a place of mutual respect, who have something to teach me AND are also open to the possibility that they may learn something in the process.

With respect.
Mimi

Hmm….I find this interesting.  I've always felt that the Q&R should be answered in a personal manner.  It is a device to create dialogue between members, to encourage the true sharing of personal experience and ideas.  We are all at a different point in our personal growth.  As a somewhat long standing member, I have seen personalities come and go, many of them taking up guru status and many quietly watching blogs and occasionally offering an opinion.  Both approaches are certainly fine, however, I've also come to believe that what one says on their blog is theirs.  Their words should be their own words and when speaking about something personal, I don't see the point of being challenged.  Perhaps when we discuss politics and such we can expect to be challenged or if we are spouting a specific religious atitude that might offend others; spirituality is like all other beliefs, it runs the risk of being an uninpenetrable shield and so some people use it as such.
One thing I have noticed on Gaia is that a number of people not only will not put their photos up, but they will also not give any information that would hint to anyone who they really are.  There are no highs and lows, no references to the reality of their own lives, nothing to give substance or entice us so that we want to know more.
Personally, I don't care who agrees with me, but I do care whether the person offering an opinion has a face or something recognizable.  We can look at numerous profiles and manage to find evidence of a human being without needing to have intimate information but something personal must be there otherwise how do we know who the person is?  All we know is what theory they are pushing.  Most of us have photos of atleast a family pet, or we answer the Q&R with personal opinions, not platitudes, not someone else's quotes, and not elitist dialogue.  But that's just my personal opinion.
AlcheMystic:  I still loved your answer.  It is you to the core.  I know you.  I met you here.  We are now friends and I don't think that would have happened had either of us had characters as faces, had there been nothing personal or any real sharing of ideas.  Our friendship would not have grown had we not reached out and asked questions and engaged each other in true dialogue.
I suppose its fine for people to belong to Gaia and remain anonymous, certainly that is their right, but what is the point?  What do we learn if we sit back in our anonymous seats and watch the parade?  What do we learn if we always teach, if we always instruct?  Nothing.  And which one of us knows so much that we can or should do that?  None of us.
I'm just sayin……

Thank you Jackie for your wise and insightful comment. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you shared here. I don't believe in pushing an agenda on someone else's blog. I would save that for a forum or group discussion. This is why I have not gone to Gabby's blog to ask why he doesn't answer the question asked and why he just rephrases the question, facilitates the dialogue of others, and then pats them on the head when they say something he likes. That is how I feel he treated this exact Q & R in his own blog. Maybe he us using his blog as his personal training ground for learning how to become a guru. Being that it IS his personal blog for him to use as he sees fit I wouldn't dream of challenging him on his use of it and I would not dream of going over there to push my own agenda.

But that's just me.

I read his blog.  Its interesting.  I just don't think its anything we don't already know because I've read it all somewhere, maybe in many places.  I'm sure he's a well intended guy but I don't need a guru, you don't need a guru, and actually, I would think most free thinking adults don't need a guru but it is a guru I see.  Interesting there is no reflection in the mirror though don't you think?
What if there is no Gabriel/Gabby?  What if he's really a fictitious character?  What if its really Shrek, you know, maybe Shrek was real and we were told he was an animation.  We know not to believe everything we are told.  We make our own reality.  What if we are talking about the real Shrek or whoever that other character is (I didn't see that movie)……….can you imagine?  Shrek on Gaia……Wow.  Celebrity time….:)
